Hovelsrud is one of the grand historic farms on Helgøya, beautifully located on the sunny slopes down toward Lake Mjøsa. Here, food is produced sustainably, with respect for nature and a strong focus on animal welfare. The entire farm is organic and managed according to regenerative farming principles.

The Historic Garden

The garden has been restored to its original 1840s design and is open to visitors on weekends during the summer season. Groups are also welcome by appointment. The farm shop is open during garden opening hours, offering homemade juices, jams, and the farm’s organic, animal welfare-certified chicken — Hovelsrudkylling.

Accommodation

Sommerfjøset

A unique place to stay beside the shimmering waters of Lake Mjøsa and rolling grain fields. Once used for milking cows during summer, this charming building is now a special retreat for couples or families with small children.

Villa Leonore

A beautiful summer villa dating back to 1908, offering complete privacy, a garden leading down to a private lakeside beach, 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and a large outdoor dining table for long summer evenings.

Havrebakken Cottage

A traditional crofter’s cottage with stunning views of Lake Mjøsa, perfectly located beside the forest and a network of scenic trails across Helgøya. The cottage includes 6 beds, a bathroom, kitchen, and living room.

Organic Chicken

The farm’s own Hovelsrudkylling is sold in Kiwi stores across Norway and served at some of the country’s finest restaurants. As Norway’s only chicken producer certified with both organic and animal welfare labels, the farm focuses on space, natural feed, and active outdoor living — resulting in exceptional flavor and tender meat.

Frozen chicken can also be purchased from the self-service farm outlet by the roadside.
